Acrobat 8.1 does not show barcode on PDF

Hi, 

We generate PDF using FOP 0.20.5 and use font Code 39E to generate a
barcode. Up until version 7 of acrobat reader, we were able to view this
font on pdf. With Adobe 8.1, we are unable to see the barcode on the pdf. 

The PDF version used by FOP is 1.3 

Have we missed anything ?
