Windows users/URISyntaxException?

Hi!

Just wanna drop a note to people installing on Windows.

Make sure you install Tomcat in a directory free from spaces! Do _not_ use the
path recommended by the Tomcat installer, since that path has spaces. Instead,
install to c:\tomcat or c:\usr\local\tomcat or the like.

If you have already installed Tomcat at such a location, just move it, and make
sure you update your shortcuts in the start menu.

Having the lenya web directory in a structure that contains spaces will give an
URISyntaxException.

This is be a show stopper on Windows. (At least Windows XP)

Good luck!

This is quite interesting. Maybe you should take this to the
avalon developers mailing lists
(http://avalon.apache.org/mailing-lists.html).

Re: Windows users/URISyntaxException?

Hi,

Your right and it seems to be propagated from excalibur source resolver
(org.apache.excalibur.source.impl.FileSource) and not in Lenya code, at
least the ones I checked. I recompiled
org.apache.excalibur.source.impl.FileSource adding
        m_uri = uri.replaceAll(" ", "%20");
in the place of
        m_uri = uri;
in method
    private void init(String scheme, File file) throws SourceException
    {
        m_scheme = scheme;

        String uri;
        try
        {
            uri = file.toURL().toExternalForm();
        }
        catch (MalformedURLException mue)
        {
            // Can this really happen ?
            throw new SourceException("Failed to get URL for file " + file,
mue);
        }

        if (!uri.startsWith(scheme))
        {
            // Scheme is not "file:"
            uri = scheme + ':' + uri.substring(uri.indexOf(':') + 1);
        }

        m_uri = uri.replaceAll(" ", "%20");

        m_file = file;
    }

Then put the class in lenya classes folder as in
C:\Program
Files\jakarta-tomcat-4.0\webapps\lenya\WEB-INF\classes\org\apache\excalibur\
source\impl

Then restarted tomcat and got further in running Lenya but haven't tested
everything but no longer get URISyntaxException right away when going to
Lenya's weblog!

Do avalon people want to modify org.apache.excalibur.source.impl.FileSource
this way? I found setting <SPACE> to %20 up stream gets wiped by the
file.toURL().toExternalForm();

Or perhaps file.toURL().toExternalForm(); could be changed to
file.toURI().toString(); but I don't know if this would mess up other
excalibur dependent projects.

Any suggestions?

Roger

Sorry about this. This was a bug in the default publication (due to
unfinished porting of features from the unicom publication to the
default publication). This was also a bug in Bugzilla
(http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=24617). It is fixed
now. Please update from CVS.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Errors OS X

Posted by Tim Cavanagh <ti...@tafe.sa.edu.au>.
Hi all,

I am having some problems with a lenya installation on Apple OS X machine.

I have found that the only browsers to work with lenya are Netscape 7.1 and
IE 5.2.3. And opera 6+

I am using ANT 1.5.4, cocoon 2.1.2, lenya-1.2-dev , Tomcat 4.1.24, OS X
10.3.1, JVM 1.4.1_01 (apple) endorsed libs
xalan-2.5.1.jar
xalan-2.5.2.jar
xercesImpl-2.5.0.jar
xercesImpl.jar
xmlParserAPIs.jar

Using one of the lenya compatible browsers if I try to create a page I get
the following error, the page is created though but I cannot edit it with
any editor except the one form source editor. Lenya also appears very slow
on a local host install. Cocoon and openCMS run much quicker.

I have been using cocoon for 3 years now but Lenya is getting frustrating.

Many thanks

Could you please attach the stack trace?

Yep the 2.1.2 cocoon fixed this problem. I can now see all the examples in
Lenya but whenever I click on the editors view or login as editor link I get
the cocoon servlet returning a NUllPointerException in the
ServerPagesGenerator

Any ideas? I am running it on OS X too if this is an issue?

Hi,

Could someone help me with a problem I am having?

I have getting a "Failed to convert address [0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1]" error when I
click on any of the example publications links in a clean install of Lenya.
The index page has loaded fine. Cocoon works fine with is examples.

This is a new install of Lenya 1.2 from binary
Using tomcat 4.1.24
java version "1.4.1_01" Apple Version
Cocoon 2.1 build from source
Endorsed libraries copied in
Permissions set fine

Any ideas?

Many thanks
