Access controls ot limit remote clients connecting to tomcat

Our organization needs to be able to control who can connect to tomcat.
In other words, I am going to setup tomcat on one machine and then have 
several other servers running apache talking to tomcat but I want to be 
able to filter which servers can talk to tomcat.

How is this currently implemented?
