Derby logo on the web site
I'm resurrecting the topic that tapered off right before the holidays.
The start of that discussion is at
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/db-derby-user/200512.mbox/%3c43A9987F.2000504@bristowhill.com%3e
.
Here's my succinct summary (anyone should feel free to add details):
(1) Roger Dudler offered to help us produce a final logo in various
sizes that will also work for the web site. DERBY-747 at
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-747 is the Jira issue we're
using for managing drafts.
(2) The wording that went with the logo with text at
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321023/derby_with_text.jpg
can't be used as is because of the use of "Java". Dan Debrunner and
Craig Russell voiced the strongest concerns about nailing down the text
as well as the look of the text.
(3) For the web site, Jean Anderson voiced strong preferences for
continuing to include the DB project logo in the masthead to maintain
that clear affiliation.
Here's the last sample I did for the web site:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321539/masthead_derby5.png
The derby logo is a little blurry because I cut&pasted it from
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321532/masthead_derby2.png
. When people provide feedback, Roger can produce a crisp final.
With that, I'd like to kick off another round of logo discussions. It
would be nice to get this finalized so we can incorporate it into the
web site, derby docs, etc.
regards,
-jean

+1. seems like a good choice of words to me. :-)

The new proposal looks good to me. I agree that it is important to get
the look of the text as well as the wording nailed down to present a
consistent image wherever the logo is used.

Your eyesight is far better than mine -- I had to line a ruler up to
determine that, indeed, the original tagline is closer to the Apache
Derby text.
Does anyone else have a preference either way?

Hi,
I have no issues with the proposed banner.

I liked the positioning of the original tagline. The new tagline seems to
far away from "Apache Derby".

Roger changed the subline from "Pure Java Database" to "Open Source
Database":
old:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321023/derby_with_text.jpg
new:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321532/masthead_derby2.png
Does anybody disagree with his choice of new wording? If so, what do you
suggest?
Does anybody disagree with the overall look (fonts) used for the text?
If so, what do you suggest?
If I hear nothing by this Friday, Jan 20, I'll assume this is good to go
as is and will ask Roger to create the finals in various sizes. And,
Roger, thanks again for all your work on this!

Roger changed the subline from "Pure Java Database" to "Open Source
Database":
old:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321023/derby_with_text.jpg
new:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321532/masthead_derby2.png

suggest?

If so, what do you suggest?
If I hear nothing by this Friday, Jan 20, I'll assume this is good to go
as is and will ask Roger to create the finals in various sizes. And,
Roger, thanks again for all your work on this!
