[jira] Created: (UIMA-1633) UimaASStatusCallbackListener javadoc
should say when aStatus can be null
UimaASStatusCallbackListener javadoc should say when aStatus can be null
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: UIMA-1633
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-1633
Project: UIMA
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Async Scaleout
Affects Versions: 2.3AS
Reporter: Jörn Kottmann
Fix For: 2.3AS
The UimaASStatusCallbackListener interface should say when aStatus can be null. The docbook documentation says for all three methods "On success aStatus will be null", but it seems that it is not true anymore for entityProcessComplete because aStatus is needed to retrieve the cas reference id.

[jira] Commented: (UIMA-1633) UimaASStatusCallbackListener javadoc

Jerry Cwiklik commented on UIMA-1633:
-------------------------------------
Jorn, the UIMA AS docbook has already been changed. Here is the paragraph from a new docbook about entityProcessComplete method:
entityProcessComplete(CAS aCas, EntityProcessStatus aStatus): The callback used
to inform the application that a processCas request has completed. On success aCAS
object will contain result of analysis; on failure the CAS will be in the same state as
before it was sent to a service and aStatus will contain the cause of failure. When
calling this method, the Uima AS passes an object of type UimaASProcessStatus as a
second argument. It extends EntityProcessStatus and provides getCasReferenceId()
method to retrieve a unique id assigned to a CAS.To access this method the user
code should implement the following:
if ( aStatus instanceof UimaASProcessStatus ) {
casReferenceId =
((UimaASProcessStatus)aStatus).getCasReferenceId();
}
I also checked the UimaASStatusCallbackListener interface and its description for entityProcessComplete says:
/**
* Called when the processing of each entity has completed.
*
* @param aCas
* the CAS containing the processed entity and the analysis results
* @param aStatus
* the status of the processing. This object contains a record of any Exception that
* occurred, as well as timing information.
*/
public void entityProcessComplete(CAS aCas, EntityProcessStatus aStatus);
Let me know if the above are lacking clarity with regards to the null value and I will correct it. Otherwise, I think this issue should be closed as duplicate of https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-1484. Please close if you agree.
