NOT OKAY

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing a school paper for a very important college and I am not happy. Your program underlined in red that the word vaginas is incorrect and penises is correct. I do not like this and it is very sexist. Please fix it!

Indeed, the person may be a spammer who will sell performance
enhancing supplements ;-) On the other hand, those terms are also used
in the medical or health profession and... why not? A writer of XXX
movies may be using OO for his/her scripts. And etc., etc.

That's the one that I verified those fe/male anatomical words against.

Of course, I've seen that notification multiple times as I start OO
4.1.1. Nevertheless, I am also aware of impersonator/injector programs
from US' NSA and UK's GCHQ (as well as third parties like FinFisher)
and thus I'm not in a hurry to "click" on the notification and be
taken to who knows where.

Reiterating, I had not had 'curiosity' to write those words until the
original poster in this thread complained (s/he's been provided a
relevant link to solve her/his issue, by now).

On my part, I am fine with my current default US English dictionary ;-)

Thanks for your gracious explanation, Andrea.

I don't have an opinion on the original post and I didn't verify the
claim. However, just to clarify dictionary updates vs OpenOffice
updates: dictionaries are updated every month, while OpenOffice releases
are less frequent, one every 3-4 months; so when version 4.1.1 was
released, last August, it bundled the dictionary that was current at
that time; the next release will bundle the dictionary that will be
current when we release. In the meantime, dictionary updates are
published independently and users, with the default settings, are
notified of the available dictionary updates when they launch OpenOffice.

Regards,
   Andrea.

Thanks for the link. On the other hand, I seldom write those terms --
but from the perspective of someone who downloads the the latest OO
version, it should be assumed that *all* the default components are
updated for that release. Hence, the indignation from the original
poster is valid -- but now s/he is got your link reference to resolve
her/his issue.

You should update your dictionary. Latest version, as I stated, recognizes singular and plural
spellings.

Singular and plural spellings of both words are in my Canadian English dictionary on AOO. I
have not added any of them to my local dictionary. Also listed in the USA, GB, South African,
and Australian English dictionaries.

Add it to your word book, the dictionary project is managed outside of the
project. Check the extension page of the en-US dictionary
