gadgets width

Hi!
Can you explain?
In gadgets.js i see this this comment
 *"height": height of the gadget
 *"width": width of the gadget
but i check some gadgets an see that designers set only  height of gadget,
so how i can know that width is need?

While there is a config key for the width, in practice I don't know of any
containers that support it, scaling the width of a web page design (and
having various widths in the same coloms) is pretty tricky and often not
really ecstatically pleasing :)
