Hi, this is a big one.  The problem with that is that List came with Java
Collections in 1.2, and we still have some committers who want to maintain
support for 1.1.  Perhaps some discussion is in order about creating a 1.1
compatible module and moving the core to 1.2, but at this point we must maintain
1.1 for everything.
