MediaWiki problems - Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from batik-rasterizer.jar

Hope this is the right place for this kind of problem...

I'm running a small mediawiki server and have installed batik to display and
convert SVG images. The images display correctly in firefox when viewing the
image alone, but when mediawiki tried to preview the image all it displays
is a frame containing the following error message:

Error creating thumbnail: Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from
batik-rasterizer.jar

I'm assuming that this means that mediawiki is correctly configured to use
batik, and I'm reasonably sure I have the correct JRE installed, but beyond
this I am pretty stumped.

FWIW, I'm using Debian v4.0, mediawiki v1.13.2, Apache 2.2.3, batik v1.7

any instructions on how to properly set up batik for mediawiki would also be
greatly appreciated, or just any suggestions

Hummm... This sounds like a maven-related question [1]. Should you
consider using the (apparently more) appropriate channels [2]? ;-)

Hope this helps,

I guess that I didn't ask the right question as most of what is required to deploy batik with maven is already provided. I just needed to use the maven target in the ant file. After running that I found the pom.xml files and the jar files in batik-1.8pre/maven/*/1.8pre/. Then with a little script (see below) I was able to deploy to my local maven repository. Does that seem right?

Stuart

#!/bin/sh -e
version=1.8pre
cd $HOME/eclipse/xml-batik/batik-${version}/maven
for i in *
do
	(
	cd $i/${version}
	mvn $args \
		-Durl=http://maven:8080/archiva/repository/internal \
		-DrepositoryId=archiva.internal \
		-Dfile=$i-${version}.jar \
		-DpomFile=$i-${version}.pom \
		-DgroupId=org.apache.xmlgraphics \
		-DartifactId=$i \
		-Dversion=$version \
		-DgeneratePom=false \
		deploy:deploy-file
	)
done

Bug 42320 [1] seems to be tightly related. Bug 45020 [2] may also
apply, although already a bit off-topic. You may browse though the
open bug list using an the "Bug database" URL [3] which is in the left
menu of the project's home section [4].

Please consider contributing improvements to bug reports (updated
attachments or patches, for example) if you need make some changes to
the information (which may slightly outdated).

Hope this helps,

batik & maven: who has a pom.xml?

Posted by Stuart Pook <me...@pook.es>.
Hello

I have modified batik so that it does subpixel text rendering (following the instructions given by John C. Turnbull) and now need to do a "mvn deploy" to my local server so that it can be used by other developers. Does any one have a pom.xml for Batik (and maven) that describes Batik's dependencies and many different jar files and that will allow me to deploy Batik's jar files?

thanks
Stuart

The version of Classpath I have installed currently is 0.91.3, which could
explain the problems as it is now two years old. Unfortunately the most
recent version isn't available as a package and fails to install if I try to
install it manually. OpenJDK isn't available as a package at all for Debian
and there is no direct download for it on the site :(

I guess I should consult elsewhere for my problems with classpath, but this
is getting pretty tiresome now...

Oops - this suggests that GNU Classpath [1] is the Java environment
being used. I recall a recent thread in the mailing list where it is
stated that GNU Classpath doesn't implement some exotic APIs. The same
thread seems to suggest that OpenJDK [2] may be feasible enough, but
I'm not sure if the experiments were carried out with success...

Hope this helps,

Eek. I tried to run the rasterizer and it popped up many lines of errors:

Now I'm even more stumped :(

Re. the MediaWiki setting - I have changed the $wgSVGConverter path to
'batik' as described in the mediawiki manual. Given that the rasterizer
doesn't seem to be working, I won't change that any further right now.

Thanks for the suggestions so far :)

I'd suggest trying to run the rasterizer [1] stand-alone to make sure
this is true.

> any instructions on how to properly set up batik for mediawiki would also be

I haven't found any also, at least not in a quick search. Only small
bit about having the converter withing the system path and configuring
an appropriate variable [2]:

«If the converter program is not in the system path, you have to
specify the directory that contains the program using
$wgSVGConverterPath.»

If no one suggests a better tutorial, I'd suggest adding your current
procedure to either the mediawiki wiki [3] or the Batik wiki [4]
(possibly into a new subsection within the "How To" page).
