XmlSchema 2.1 with package renames

Based on email since we released 2.0, I've become convinced that it
was a mistake to leave the package names alone and change all the
APIs. There are a few outstanding JIRA. I propose to make a branch for
'urgent' fixes atop 2.0, and then aim the trunk at 2.1, and rename the
packages. This would make it possible for one program to use both
'current' and the 1.4 versions that are still stuck in various
slow-moving projects.

+1

this is, imo, what we should have done right from the start.

I tend to agree with Dan here. It would have made sense when 2.0 was
released. When Benson proposed it a year ago, it was already very
late. I think that now it is really too late.

Well, I more or less object now. CXF has used it for well over a year now
and renaming the packages now would certainly break a few things for our
users.

Folks,

We are thinking to upgrade Axis2 trunk into XMLSchema2 but due to
insufficient test coverage on Axis2 side it's take more time and required
more works to reach there. It would be great if we can keep both versions
as dependencies until we finish the job completely.

Since there is no objection to do the package renaming shall we do it on
trunk ?

If we agree on above I suggest "org.apache.ws.xmlschema.*" as the new
package name WDYT ? any better suggestions ?

If Benson is busy with other stuff I can spend sometime on this hope SVN
move followed by source file editing will work here.

Thanks !

Personally, I really feel very strongly either way. 2.0 is out and works
fine and I *personally* haven't really run into issues with conflicts yet that
aren't easily resolvable. If you are talking about CXF users, they are
likely to also hit the same thing with WSS4J and similar (that have big
updates in the same package names).

That said, the entire update to XmlSchema 2 didn't seem to impact any CXF
users significantly at all. Thus, I don't think changing the package names
would impact them much either. Thus, I'm a -0 to changing them.
