It seems that the problem depends on the fact that the "release" profile is not activated. Strange...

Forced the "release" profile during the release process.
Eventually, if we do not want to upload assemblies to the Maven repository, we will create a new issue.

I ran the "release:perform" goal, but strangely the "release" profile was not activated. If you see the build now, it has been generated using the manual "-P release" parameter. Another side effect was that the signature were not generated.
There was such a thing also in tiles-core's pom, before the tiles-assembly module was created, but it seems that it was never used.
Do you think that we should remove the assembly from the maven repository?

It's fine to deploy the assemblies to the Maven repo if you want, as long as we also put them under www.apache.org/dist/tiles after the vote.  This location has more oversight (signature checking) and is automatically archived.

Can you clarify what happened, and what you wanted?  Are you saying it worked when you did NOT activate the release profile?

It's possible to "attach" the assemblies and have them deployed to the Maven repo, but we generally want them over in builds/tiles/ and eventually in www.apache.org/dist/tiles instead.
