JavaRebel
Hi all,
Anybody using JavaRebel with Click? Does it work as advertised or are
there issues?
Thanks

Other issues I've found using JavaRebel with Click:

3. Adding a public field to a page, the automatic "addControl(field)" is *not* executed in background (as one would expect), so the field is not rendered (only the empty velocity variable - e.g. $button). If I call manually addControl(field) it works of course.
Also, after restarting the application this "automatic feature" works again and the field is rendered correctly.
So it looks like the auto-binding and other "auto-" features from Click also need to be re-triggered with a click-javarebel plug-in (since JavaRebel doesn't seem to pick them either :( ).

I just tried it with IntelliJ an Click and it's simply incredible - I'm very impressed :).
I modified only classes however, no click/cayenne XMLs nor velocity resources.
I also gave it a try newly with JR 2.0. So far I found that:
1. - changes to the click.xml (e.g. the logging level) are not picked up
2. - adding setRedirect(MyPage.class) to some button listeners doesn't seem to be picked always either (no errors are displayed, but only after restarting tomcat seems to work). This is quite frustrating cause it's not easy to reproduce, but it's there only with JR.
So a plug-in would definitely need to address at least #1.
Thank you,
A.

Hi!
I noticed this post and we can easily have a post on ZeroTurnaround/dow.ngra.de about your framework and the plugin if you make one. We could even host a screencast if you would make one about Click with JavaRebel. Such demos usually look awesome :)

A click plug-in would rule (I think it would need to cooperate with click when the development, debug and trace click modes are used).
thanks,
Joseph.
P.S. It might be a good idea to mention it in the FAQ since most new users have no idea about it's existence.

I think JavaRebel monitors only class files.
For the rest, plug-ins needs to be written (although they look very simple:
http://code.google.com/p/zt-oss/source/browse/
I guess they just inform when what to do for situations not covered default by JavaRebel)
In our case, I think a Click JR plug-in would need to:
- monitor for changes of click.xml
- monitor for changes in *.properies files
- monitor for changes in META-INF for components
A Velocity plug-in would need to:
- monitor changes for the resources you mention.
A Cayenne plug-in would need to:
- monitor for xxxMap.xml files changes (and others).

Just wondering how JavaRebel would deal with WAR file assets, page
templates, CSS resources etc?
The Velocity classpath resource loader would server some of these
assets but not all.

Me. I've been using it for more than two years and I cannot for the life of understand why Sun does not buy this company or product. None can tell if Sun lost hundred of thousands of potential developers for this reason alone.
It works. Up until this version I'd start the app whenever I added new object fields or static methods. Now, it's even better. I cannot tell about ghost bugs. If there is any doubt on my side, I just restart.
Guys, go get it. If click needs to do anything to accommodate it, please do - it's one other marketing tools as you'd appear on such a popular list.

I think there's a need for such a plug-in :) :
- The other plug-ins look quite simple (so a Click one shouldn't be complicated)
- it would raise the visibility of click
- knowing that there's a click plug-in, it might animate more users to try it.
I think you could also get open source license for it.

My reason for asking is they have a number of plugins for different
frameworks such as Struts, Tapestry, Stripes etc. Was wondering if a
similar plugin is needed for Click before it works properly.
There is a open request for a similar solution in the JRE itself:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4910812. Its been
accepted so would be interesting to see what comes of this.

I heard that it's more ad/hype than reality from some developers who were hunting "ghost bugs" due to it (but not in a Click app) :).
Nevertheless, the idea is very appealing, and the demos are also quite convincing to me :D.
