[I] Local Desktop Parquet Download Should Not Be Zipped [texera]

kunwp1 opened a new issue, #3822:
URL: https://github.com/apache/texera/issues/3822

   When downloading workflow results in Parquet format to the local desktop, the system currently provides a .zip file containing the .parquet file. Local desktop downloads should directly provide a single .parquet file.

   Just curious, can zip reduce the size of a .parquet file?

   Yes, I tested with two CSV files, but the size reduction was very small:
   - A 3KB Parquet file compressed to 2KB when zipped.
   - A 3.7MB Parquet file compressed to 3.4MB when zipped.

   I think we should decide whether results are always zipped or kept as standalone files, and ensure the user experience is consistent with that choice. Currently, this inconsistency only occurs with Parquet downloads. CSV and Arrow files are downloaded unzipped.

   Maybe @aicam knows the reason?

   I support a consistent experience by always using a zip file.

   @aicam Please chime in.

   If the other file types are unzipped, then Parquet should also be unzipped. Do you know the reason why Parquet downloads are zipped?

   OK. Then we don't need to use a zip file.

   Imagine if we’re talking in terms of gigabytes. Compressing a 3.7GB file down to 3.4GB is already a significant improvement. If the creation of a ZIP file is due to an incorrect setting or a bug, then it definitely needs to be fixed. However, if this behavior is the result of an intentional design decision in the library, we should consider the reasoning behind it.
