Claus, I added a revised patch to include basic JMX enabled detection, added isJMXDisabled() helper to CamelContext, a few unit tests and more route metrics (see the screen shot).  

Let me know if continuing this approach is worthwhile or if a larger rework of this area is necessary (as indicated by the roadmap and other comments)....
