Problem deploying Tapestry webapp in Sun App Server

Posted by Szymon Dembek <de...@wp.pl>.
Hello,

I've already posted this message a few days before, but since I got no
reply, I'd like to try once more... Sorry if this occurs to You as
spamming...

I've been trying to deploy my simple Tapestry app into Sun Java
Application Server (version 8 2005Q1), but I've run into some problems.

When trying to run the deployed webapp, I get the following message:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

org.apache.tapestry.enhance.javassist.EnhancedClassFactory.createClassPool(EnhancedClassFactory.java:57)
org.apache.tapestry.enhance.javassist.EnhancedClassFactory.reset(EnhancedClassFactory.java:69)...

...and then the rest of the stack trace.

It seems that the javassist library cannot be loaded, but it is supplied
in my war. By the way - the app works just perfect under jboss, weblogic
or tomcat, so the whole war package is probably OK.

I'm running sun app server under windows and sun jdk 1.4.2_03 and 1.5.0

Does anybody have any clue what might be wrong? Can it be a Sun
classloader problem?

Thanks in advance,

Szymon Dembek

Go to "Run -> Run.." menu in Eclipse and click on Classpath tab. This is
where runtime classpath options are configured.

Yeah, Cayenne seems to load OK. So how about you take the exception
message at face value and doublecheck that (1) your DataMap has an
ObjEntity mapped to edot.crud.domain.Dvd and (2) DataMap that contains
this entity has a DataNode selected from the dropdown in CayenneModeler.

Hope this helps

Andrus

Yes, I use it all the time. I am only aware of one caveat - you have to
put cayenne.jar in the runtime classpath above Spindle libraries as there
is a conflict of two different versions of commons-collections (this is
for Tapestry 3.0, I am not sure how 3.1 behaves). Anyway, this problem is
likely unrelated to your case...

Looks like you are doing something wrong when accessing Cayenne. If you
can post complete Jetty console log, and also the stack trace of the
exception, this should give a better idea of what went wrong.

Andrus

Re: PDF Generation

This another way to generate PDF/HTML/CSV is to use JasperReports:
http://kgionline.com/presentations/ireport/ireportDemo.jsp
I use the method above to prepare Jasper report and then use T service
to render it into PDF/CSV and stream it to browser:

public class JasperToPDFService extends AbstractService{

  public static final String SERVICE_NAME = "JasperToPDFService";

  public String getName(){
    return SERVICE_NAME;
  }

  /**
   * parameters[page,ognlExpressionToGetSource]
   * @param iEngineServiceView
   * @param cycle
   * @param responseOutputStream
   * @throws javax.servlet.ServletException
   * @throws java.io.IOException
   */
  public void service( IEngineServiceView iEngineServiceView,
IRequestCycle cycle, ResponseOutputStream responseOutputStream ) throws
ServletException, IOException{
    Object[] params = getParameters( cycle ) ;
    String pageName = (String) params[0];
    String srcExpression = (String) params[1];
    responseOutputStream.setContentType( "application/pdf" );
    HttpServletResponse response = cycle.getRequestContext().getResponse();
    response.setHeader("Expires", "0");
    response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "must-revalidate, post-check=0,
pre-check=0");
    response.setHeader("Pragma", "public");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\""
+ pageName +".pdf\"");
    try{
      JasperPrint p = (JasperPrint) Ognl.getValue( Ognl.parseExpression(
srcExpression ), cycle.getPage( pageName ) );

ConsoleServicesFactory.getJasperReportExecutor().exportReportToPDF( p,
response.getOutputStream());
    } catch( Exception e ){
      throw new ServletException( e );
    }
  }

  public ILink getLink( IRequestCycle iRequestCycle, IComponent
iComponent, Object[] params ){
      return this.constructLink( iRequestCycle,getName(),null,
params,false );
  }

Re: Eclipse with JettyLauncher

Hi sastan,

Try putting all jars (cayenne, tapestry and dependencies) in the lib directory inside WEB-INF. If I remember correctly, this'll do the trick.

cheers,

fernando
