Summary: tcnative-1.dll response overflow corruption, partial
                    pages
           Product: Tomcat 5
           Version: Nightly Build
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows 2000
            Status: NEW
          Keywords: NeedsReleaseNote
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P2
         Component: Catalina
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: interz12@yahoo.com

Running Tomcat 5.5.15 w/ tcnative-1.dll on windows 2000 server. All latest patches.

When running Tomcat as local SYSTEM or local user account in the local
Administrators group, tomcat works fine. Once you have Tomcat run as a non-local
user account (such as a domain account DOMAIN\account) which IS in the local
Administrators group, in order for your app to access files on the network,
Tomcat's responses to browser requests seem to overflow into one another. Hard
to describe, but when pressing refresh we will start to get multiple portions of
JSP output, headers from other responses and just plain unreadable garbage
outputted into the webpage.

When we stop Tomcat, remove the tcnative-1.dll and restart (still running as
non-local user, in local admins group) behavior returns to normal. We do not get
, what appears to be, response overflow.

I tested with a unpriviledged user, and running bin/tomcat5.exe with APR works
fine. Of course, all the service based functionality is not accessible.

Not sure what to do here. Aaron, if you could try with the latest tcnative
(1.1.3 should be cut tomorrow along with Tomcat 5.5.17) and report your
findings, as well as try what Bill suggested and let us know how it goes, that'd
be great.

We are not going to be able to confirm or reproduce this, so you're on your own
to investigate, fix or bring definite proof of this behavior.

There are old reports on dev@httpd about sendfile on Windows having issues
with shared drives. However, I recall that these have been fixed in the
latest APR.

Just for chuckles, you could try again with disabling sendfile, but still
using the APR connector. It should buy you less than zero, but the report
would help the APR team :).

------- Additional Comments From wyspa@inter-c.pl 2006-12-05 15:30 -------
Same tcnative-1.dll problem.
First installed WinXP SP1 and Tomcat 5.5.20 with tcnative (1.1.4.0).
Everything went ok.
Then installed SP2. Still ok. And then all the MS updates (a bunch of more
than 50 windows updates - all from SP2 issue date till 2006-12-06). Suddenly
problem with serving big *.js files occured. Couldn't run FCKeditor on Firefox
properly because Tomcat didn't served
FCKeditor/editor/js/fckeditorcode_gecko.js file properly in one of my webapps.
The size of the file was ok, but the body looked like someone copy-and-pasted
the beginning of the file in the midst of it (thus ruining Javascript code).
Removed tcnative and everything's fine again.
