[users@httpd] Apache wont start

Hello List

after having upgraded from Apache 2.2.2 to 2.2.3, I had some problems:
- When I tried to start the newly upgraded Apache, it wouldn't start
because it said that the Apache 2.2 service was still running.
Restarting the computer did the trick and it has worked ...
- ... till now: I did some changes to my .conf file, after which I tried
to restart Apache... When I click 'start [the apache service]' it simply
gives me a black screen and it dissapears... I think this is due to a
problem in the .conf file, however instead of pointing to the error (so
I could debug it) it does completely nothing... When I commented out
everything that I modified after the upgrade, it still did the same,
reinstalling also did not work...
Looking at the error.log file:
            [Sat Nov 25 19:51:12 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Child
process is running
[Sat Nov 25 19:51:12 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Acquired the
start mutex.
            [Sat Nov 25 19:51:12 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Starting 250
worker threads.
            [Sat Nov 25 19:51:12 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Starting
thread to listen on port 80.
[Sat Nov 25 19:53:07 2006] [notice] Parent: Received
shutdown signal -- Shutting down the server.
[Sat Nov 25 19:53:07 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Exit event
signaled. Child process is ending.
[Sat Nov 25 19:53:08 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Released the
start mutex
[Sat Nov 25 19:53:09 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Waiting for
250 worker threads to exit.
[Sat Nov 25 19:53:09 2006] [notice] Child 1732: All worker
threads have exited.
            [Sat Nov 25 19:53:09 2006] [notice] Child 1732: Child
process is exiting
[Sat Nov 25 19:53:09 2006] [notice] Parent: Child process
exited successfully.
What the heck does that mean? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Sebastiaan Snoeckx

Re: [users@httpd] Apache wont start

Posted by Deepak Vohra <dv...@yahoo.com>.
Start the Apache server as a console application with

  apache.exe -e debug

Check the System Event Log in Event Viewer.
Event Viewer is accessed with Administrative Services>Event Viewer.

Check the System Log and the Application Log.

Please let me know if you still get the error.

  thanks,
  Deepak
