[jira] [Commented] (CASSANDRA-13901) Linux Script for stopping running cassandra and cqlsh

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-13901?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16273479#comment-16273479 ]

Jeff Jirsa commented on CASSANDRA-13901:
----------------------------------------

I have some concerns here.

1) Cassandra has mechanisms to stop itself (via nodetool), which does a nice clean shutdown, not {{kill -9}} which can potentially lose data in some edge cases,

2) The command to fetch the PID {{ | grep apache-cassandra }} is unlikely to work reliably and safely. It'll probably not match in many environments, and it'll over-match in environments where multiple instances are running.

3) I'm not sure what problem this solves. Can you help explain why you need such utilities?
