Joachim Draeger commented on JAMES-702:
---------------------------------------

I have problems opening the attachement. Did you use any special chars?

Accessing James Imap with JavaMail has not been tested by me so far. Thank you for giving it a try!
For examining the problem we need some informations from James Server:
e.g.:

imapserver*.log
mailboxmanager*.log
the streamdump containing the client/server conversation (don't forget to wipe out sensitive informations)

Joachim Draeger commented on JAMES-702:
---------------------------------------

So your have accessed INBOX with outlook express and it is still not working with pooka?
For me the streamdump was clear: it couldn't list the INBOX.

I tried the following from telnet:

$ telnet localhost 10143
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK JAMES IMAP4rev1 Server next-major Server localhost. ready

A1 login joachim abc
A1 OK LOGIN completed.

A2 LIST "" INBOX
A2 OK LIST completed.

A3 SELECT inbox
* FLAGS (\Answered \Deleted \Draft \Flagged \Recent \Seen)
* 0 RECENT
* OK [UIDVALIDITY 1677614823]
* 0 EXISTS
* OK No messages unseen
* OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\Answered \Deleted \Draft \Flagged \Recent \Seen)]
A3 OK [READ-WRITE] SEL

A4  LIST "" INBOX
* LIST () "." INBOX
A4 OK LIST completed.

A6 logout
* BYE IMAP4rev1 Server logging out
A6 OK LOGOUT completed.

At tag A2 the listing of INBOX brings no result, like in your're streamdump. After selecting once it did successfully list.

Maybe you're experiencing another issue now. Does the streamdump bring different results now?

Joachim Draeger commented on JAMES-702:
---------------------------------------

At the first sight there is nothing unusual. But:
It's trying to list the INBOX and gets no result, because INBOX probably does not exist yet.
Inbox is autocreated when it gets first accessed by an arriving mail or if the IMAP client starts with a SELECT INBOX.

Mmhhh... INBOX should be autocreated somewhere the user logs in. I have to think about that.

In the mean time, as a workaround, you could try one of the following:

- send an email to that account (Don't forget to activate:
   <James>
     ...
      <!-- Experimental IMAP support -->
      <inboxRepository>
         <repository destinationURL="mailboxmanager://users/" type="MAIL" />
      </inboxRepository>
   </James>
  and deactivate dbfile in config.xml)

- use another client (e.g. thunderbird), that accesses INBOX blind, to trigger the autocreation.

- use a simple "telnet localhost 10143" session (with preceding line numbers):

1 login theuser thepassword
2 select INBOX
3 logout

[jira] Commented: (JAMES-702) javamail can't get imap folders

Posted by "Joachim Draeger (JIRA)" <se...@james.apache.org>.
    [ http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-702?page=comments#action_12450974 ]

Joachim Draeger commented on JAMES-702:
---------------------------------------

Okay, "unfortunately" nothing  abnormal there.
So the streamdump is our last resort before doing ugly debugging. :-)
It is located in ../apps/james/streamdump and consists of a pair in/out.

IMAP clients may open several concurrent connections, so the best would be:

1. delete (or move) all files in streamdump
2. perform the action on the client, close the client
3. wipe out passwords in the "in" files (unless you're using only trivial/testing ones)
4. zip the streamdump folder
5. attach to JIRA

[jira] Resolved: (JAMES-702) pooka can't get imap folders

Posted by "Joachim Draeger (JIRA)" <se...@james.apache.org>.
     [ http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-702?page=all ]

Joachim Draeger resolved JAMES-702.
-----------------------------------

    Resolution: Fixed

This is fixed because INBOX is created at login now.

Unfortunately Pooka uses a bunch of other special commands.
New Jiras should be opened if someone is going to do further investigations.

Here is what I noticed:

A8 FETCH 3 (BODYSTRUCTURE)

Don't know if this returns valid result

A9 FETCH 3 (BODY[TEXT]<0.16384>)
(Fetch bytes 0-16384)

causes an Exception.

It uses also allot of SEARCH UNSEEN ALL which is not implemented.
