remote send mail to IMAP

Hi all,

I have previously raised this issue but unfortunately I didn't get a
positive and meaningful response.
The issue here is the inability for JAMES server to receive mail attachments
from a remote mail server like hotmail.com/yahoo.com to JAMES IMAP mail
server. I am aware that the protocol is still under proposal and am
currently evaluating it.

I have undergone two test case scenarios to achieve the receival of mail
attachments to my JAMES IMAP server:

1) I have managed to get the sending/receival of local multipart messages
working okay between local mail accounts residing local to the JAMES IMAP
server. I have sent a binary (base64 encoding charset) to a local recipient
and recipient is able to receive this and open it to view no problems.

2) I have undergone the same scenario as in 1) in that I used hotmail.com
mail server to send the same multipart file attachments as previously in 1)
and my JAMES IMAP server receives this okay but the problem resides when I
attempt to open the attachment file and could not get to view this. Strange
enough I was able to view the body content of the message i.e. the textual
part okay but not able to read in the attachment file. I am using the
FileMailBox mechanism to store received files in a local filesystem. I
therefore used this approach: I have opened the original message file
received in 1) and simply copied the binary content of the original file
attachment and pasted it on top of the remote mail sent originally from
Hotmail.com and saved the message file. Without restarting JAMES, I was then
able to read in the file attachment. Weird!!! Can this be a problem in
difference of encoding method schemes adopted by JAMES and Hotmail.com? The
content types were identical in both multipart attachment content type
headers and similarly the Content-Transfer-Encoding were the same.

Just to add in another confusion I have also noticed that the second
multipart's attachment file as doubled in size as the IMAP client I use
seems to have doubled the FETCH BODY[n] client requests to the server.

I would appreciate it a lot for your feedback on this matter.

Thanks in advance.

Sam.

Sam,

Nobody is actively working on IMAP. I hope to in the coming weeks, but
nobody has touched the IMAP code in months and you're pretty much on
your own debugging this one.
