Weird... I remember we once had something similar (PDFBOX-1917) but it was fixed in 1.8.5 already.

Anyway, I'm glads it works with 1.8.7. (Although rendering of that file doesn't do much, because of a java bug with CMR fonts. But this is not relevant for you if you just use PDFBox rendering e.g. for thumbnails) 

The 1.8.7. release is *planned* to get out this month. You can of course use the snapshot, unless you have company policies that forbid this.

So I'm closing this issue (but you can still comment) as "not a problem" but will keep p.48 for regression tests (assuming that the small file I uploaded does have the effect in 1.8.6 for you - please verify this). 

You can find out when 1.8.7. is released by looking at the website, or the user mailing list, or by using the maven versions plugin.

@lehmi I can render the files with 2.0.0. Your text "I haven't got any output at all" contradicts "PDFReader works well"  - what do you mean, what doesn't work?
