Summary: Redeployment doesn't work
Product: Tomcat 5
Version: 5.5.15
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Unknown
AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: tal@csfi.com
The deployer takes the WAR and extract it for the first time. Then when I drop a
new WAR file (replce the exist WAR) it is not replacing the previous one. This
is happenning regardless of whether there is a session or not. The <Host ..>
does not contain the autoDeploy="true", but when I go the the Manager it is set
to True. If I place the autoDeply="true" and then open Manager, it removes that
valiable from the servers.xml!
Here is the example:
drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 4096 Mar 15 14:57 WebReport
-rwxrwxrwx 1 swx root 2880043 Mar 15 15:02 WebReport.war

So the auto redeployment from 5.0 is gone on 5.5? I would have to explicitly
redeploy the application each time? If so, is there any effect to the autoDeploy
variable?!

You have to explicitly update the deployment via the Manager app. Grep
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/manager-howto.html for "update" to see
the syntax. (Using this syntax, redeployment works without a hitch for me,
whether using packed or unpacked WARs, and with or without initial autoDeploy)

It's not entirely gone, but its semantics and behavior have changed from 5.0.
See the updated 5.5 docs especially in the Host configuration page.
