Research Scientist Position

Posted by Timothy Yandel <ti...@workbridgeassociates.com>.

Hello -

Forgive me if I'm not supposed to post positions on this list - I wanted
to present a very interesting opportunity for a Research Scientist for a
company in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

Execute research projects that advance the state of the art in the IR
field, align with business strategies, and become to production features
or applications; develop innovative algorithms. Stay current on
state-of-the-art algorithms, technologies and theories. Maintain
world-class academic credentials through publications, presentations,
external collaborations, and service to the research community. Pursue
patents where appropriate. Work closely with engineers to transfer your
ideas into quality production code.

Qualifications

* Excellent knowledge of IR models such as probabilistic
inference, risk minimization, generative relevance or stochastic
language models. Familiarity with learning to rank models.

* Experience with large-scale data mining, machine learning or
predictive modeling techniques. Experience with relevant dataset such as
TREC or LETOR.

* Familiarity with IR software such as Lucene or Lemur.

* Excellent research track record with including top-tier
peer-reviewed conferences and journals, and participation on program
committees, editorial boards, and advisory panels.

* 3+ years of post-doctoral industry or academic experience.

* Strong programming skills such as Java/C++ and scripting
language (Perl/Python/Ruby)

* Ability to align research work with business strategy and
translate research results into applications.

* Industry experience, especially in a consumer Internet or
online advertising related setting is a plus.

* Ability to collaborate with other research scientist/engineers
and work effectively in a team environment.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* Excellent interpersonal and influencing abilities.

Education:

PhD in Computer Science or related area.

Please let me know if any of you know anyone - and again I apologize if
you're not supposed to post opportunities to this list.
