Tomcat and Stronghold

We are currently using Tomcat with Stronghold.  This combination seams to
work fine for standard http requests; the jsp's and servlets serviced by the
Tomcat container behave as expected.  Problem arises only with https
requests to servlets.  Access to servlets via https has been extremely
intermittent, resulting in frequent "Page cannot be displayed" errors along
with "Segmentation Fault (11)" entries in the server error log. Current
environment is as follows: Solaris 8,  Jakarta-Tomcat 4.0.2, mod_webapp, and
Stronghold 3.0.
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
