I think we should move this past 2.0. I hear the concern about its removal but a proper fix (one that is reliable, accurate _and_ faster than querying again) is elusive given that views are implicitly r=1 in a clustered situation (my idea above is not perfect, you'll need the same copy of each shard to respond for a cache hit).

I'm pre-emptively making this a future item, please make your arguments for blocking 2.0 in this ticket (and with some ideas on how to solve this problem correctly).
