[Issue 126564] New: Base crashes when attached to remote db over
night.
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126564
Issue ID: 126564
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Base crashes when attached to remote db over night.
Product: Base
Version: 4.1.0
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows 7
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P5
Component: code
Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Reporter: mississippi322@gmx.de
create a database connected to remote(?) database server, here postgreSQL 9.4.
start / open this .odb and do some work, in fact, just opened some tables (up
to 4 in parallel), no forms or queries or anything else.
leave base open without using it
the other day base "is gone"
restaring it, recovery is done and everything is fine.
I assume, this occurs when remote db server / OS goes down for backup at night,
I know it does so. So it would also happen, whenever db is "off" for other
reason on short use.
This is not a big problem to me, just wanted to let You know.
regards

I'm not sure it's a driver issue of pg. In same situation PGadmin does not
crash, just reports connection errors and it uses probably the same driver.
Yesterday I tried to reproduce the error by forcefully stopping the server, but
nothing happened.
Today base is "gone" again and shows up with Document Recovery Dialog. I didn't
start it yet.
I looked up virus scanner event log, no related issues.
I searched OS event logs, but they are quite noisy and I didn't find anything
promising.
Is there any point I can start at base side. E.g. logs, the recovery mechnismn
itself, e.g. files or file dates / times, so I can at least get the time, when
it happens?
What I can tell:
bas odt file itself shows filedate 28.September.2015 (today is 1.october.2015).
It's size is 3KB, residing on windows network fileserver which is 24x7 online.

Maybe an autobackup.
Please discuss the problem at an user forum.

I have no windows machine. I don't use PostgreSQL.
If you can locate the problem please report it again. Thanks!

I found the backup directory. It contains to copies of base file. One of it is
stamped with 10 o'clock a.m.
When do these backup files get written?
This morning I used the system via remote desktop two or 3 times. I didn't use
the base file and unfornately I'm not aware if it was still open then or
already crashed.
Explicit usage (reopen) took place hours later.

@OP: please have a look if there other processes (system check, virus scanner,
…) which causes the crash. Base should stay with simply "connection lost" or
"connection closed", but no crash.

Base is not able to connect natively at PostgreSQL DB.
You must use a driver to do this.
So if you encountered a problem, you must first report to the driver provider.
