Many of the generated files on hermes are missing after the 2004-05-03
run. Nothing for commons-net seems present, "Projects Issues",
"Projects Fixes" are missing, "Modules All" and so on. No system I
could identify.

Nope, a mis-read. I was looking at src/documentatation/content ('cos there
was a sole index.xml in there) and forgot we'd moved to ./content. I moved
the index.xml in the template, in CVS, so we won't see it in the wrong place
again.

I ran a simple run, having wiped all directories by hand, and everthing
looked ok. I wonder if the problem only occurs when we do a full run. Some
limit (FD/whatever) is reach. Yup, I'm at the stage of wild random
guessing...

BTW: Tail keep exiting. Could this be some buffer problem? Me trying to pump
output to my SSH session over my sad little modem?

    tail: stdout: Resource temporarily unavailable

Anyone seen this?

Ok, got it -- or the symptom, if not the cause. The forrest run grows
obscenely, I swear I saw something like 1200M. Anyway after an hour of
plodding along, slowely generating pages, Gumpy gives up waiting. It kills
the shell, but not the forrest (to no problems to be seen in forrest.txt).
Gumpy then copies the documents it has to the current point, i.e. not all.

I'd like to know why Forrest is growing so huge, but I doubt I am the man to
debug it. I wonder if it is to do with the little SVGs I added, I might
remove them. [I've kept the big SVGs to my box only.]

Anyways -- either we get rid of forrest as batch, and/or I trim docs/SVGs,
and/or I change the output to be raw HTML & get on with my life...

At first I thought this was another failure to synchronize. I copied over
the staging area, but that didn't find these missing pages. I looked in the
forrest.txt (forrest output) but nothing jumped out at me. Sadly the work
area seems gone, as wiped (or the template copied over). Hmm.

I am going to run some test builds on there, in debug mode, and see if I can
spot anything. I'll run up to, and including, commons-net, so make them
shorter. [Hmm, the "tail -f" I am running on python/out.txt keeps exiting
despite the file still existing, and still being written to. Any thoughts on
that?]

I can't wait until we can get a forrest webapp on these machines, and stop
running forrest in batch mode. Not only will it dramatically reduce the
build time, it'll also simplify the process & be easier to debug. FWIIW: It
works nicely on Nick's machine (on an older forrest). I believe Nicola is
working to get this for new forrest, and I look forward to having that
installed on Brutus/Hermes.

Adam

Well, at least it tells me that commons-net is not failing because of
the usual IPv6 problem.

Thanks

Ofcourse I can't seem to reproduce the problem. I'm going to kick off a full
build.

Does this help you in the short run?
