make a .bat file:
svn log /path/to/file/or/folder > tempfile.txt
notepad.exe tempfile.txt
(the ">" redirects the output of svn to the file "tempfile.txt")

Two
Note that you can also use cmd /k to launch a new
cmd shell which remains after the command finishes.
(Contrast:
Start:Run:"cmd /k svn --version"
Start:Run:"cmd /c svn --version")
Stefan's answer is also completely reasonable; it's
just a matter of what you want to happen.
Perhaps the best solution though is a tweak to Stefan's:
> make a .bat file:
svn log /path/to/file/or/folder > tempfile.txt
cmd /c tempfile.txt
^^^^^^
This will launch the default action on .txt files
(which is notepad.exe by default, but could have
been over-ridden to be emacs, FooEdit, or whatever
the developer's preference is).

At least *you* got my posting - I never saw it! But your first neither.

Still nothing happens at all.

No luck. From the command line all this works fine, but not from
the Homesite toolbar. Then I only get the black flash. After dozens
of these flashes I was able to decipher some of the error message
displayed:
svn: The given path misformatted or contained invalid characters
svn: Error resolving case of >
I suppose instead of svn -parameter I have to use a windows client
that takes command line parameters. But RapidSVN does not take
parameters nor does TSVN. So I am lost here.
Thanks anyway. Someday (next life or so) I may learn Python and
try it with a script as someone suggested before.

Just because you can't use a batch file directly,
doesn't mean you're out of luck. You may be able to
use cmd /c <batch.bat> to get it to run.
Alternately, you can do something like:
cmd /c svn --version > c:\temp\temp.txt && cmd /c c:\temp\temp.txt
I use the second cmd /c (instead of notepad.exe) because
this will launch the default action on .txt files
(which is notepad.exe by default, but could have
been over-ridden to be emacs, FooEdit, or whatever
the developer's preference is).

Thanks for the tip. I have been there before, worked fine from the
commandline - it may be a bug in Homesite or by design, but one
cannot execute batch files from toolbar buttons. Only effect was
that buttons were substituted by the Windoze icon for DOS apps
... It looks like I have to give up the toolbar. A pity, I know this
works for CS-RCS. In fact a toolbar for CS-RCS was my model.

You are not the only one! If I don't edit TO: for every reply I get my
own postings at least twice. And usually at least the list address
has to be added manually. Other lists I am on handle this much
better and move anything but the list address into the REPLY field.
Usually this field then contains the list address (again) and the
original sender. As the mail client prefers the REPLY to FROM
everything is fine. BTW many consider it as politeness to get
replies directly, too, as they only scan the list a/o just get digests
once a day. However, I'll try to remember to keep you off replies.
