   The following functions are deprecated, and should be replaced:
   
   unescape => decodeURIComponent / decodeURI
   escape => encodeURIComponent / encodeURI
   
   substr => substring
   
   Note that substring has a different second parameter, so care must be taken when changing over.
   AFAICT substr(n) == substring(n) where n >= 0, so that should be safe to change
