Cleaning Journal Revision in 1.4.x

Hey all,
I know that when Jackrabbit 1.5 is release it will include the
notion of a janitor[1] that will cleanup the revision table after a
period of time. Since Jackrabbit 1.5 isn't available yet I have to
use jackrabbit-core 1.4.6 and I have noticed that starting up a
repository becomes quite slow as the number of revisions grows. Does
anyone have any suggestions on how to speed this up without using the
janitor functionality?

Thanks for your help,
Micah
