Xerces-P
There is an unofficial version of xerces-perl available at:
http://www.velocigen.com/~tdarugar/xerces-p/
This is a compilation of the work done by Harmon Nine (and others?) at
Netarx, wrapped up into a Perl module.
Here is the text of the message I sent out with the tarball yesterday
(not to this list, however):
--
Hello all,
This is the work that was done by Harmon Nine to get the full Xerces
API working on linux.
you should be able to untar/ungzip and then:
perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
Makefile.PL does some pretty hairy post munging of the SWIG files to
add extra functionality that doesn't currently make it past SWIG's
parsers. This may break on Windows???
You shouldn't need to edit any of the files, all the path information
is retrieved from the XERCESCROOT and from perl's Config module.
Currently there is only one test defined, a simple use of DOM.
The code has so far been tested on Harmon's x86 linux box to work with
perl 5.003 and then mangled by me to work on my ppc-linux box with
perl 5.005_65 and SWIG1.3b.
It needs to be retested, as I'm sure that I've broken the Windows
functionality somewhere, and maybe in getting it to work with later
versions of SWIG and perl, I've broken support for earlier versions.
Particularly suspect is the need to #undef bool in Xerces.i. This is
an irritating linuxism where perl defaults to defining bool=char, and
by using MakeMaker that definition comes along for the ride --
breaking some g++ iostream header down the road.
Let me know of problems,
jas.

Huh? We have done a port to Unix (Debian 2.2).
It is basically a redo of what was done for MS.
A redo is not as big as it seems as it is a SWIG wrappering.
Would you like us to send what we have at present?
We were waiting for a redo for MS based Xerces-perl using Xerces 1.1
before submitting diffs. It is done? (I haven't checked for a week)
Our work is an extract of the header files.
Then some operator/function overloading hacks to the SWIG
generated code.
Incidently, we would like authorization from somebody to
make a debian package for both Xerces-c and Xerces-perl
and add these packages to the next Debian distribution.
Thanks.

I think it's a great idea!

Thanks, Jason for your support.
I guess I can take the lack of negative responses as a positive response
:-)
Final call, if anyone doesn't want us to proceed
with a Debian package them speak now.
Harmon and I will probably get to debianizing before the end of the
April.

Just as a footnote, the version that was worked on compiles versus
Xerces-C 1.1.0.
I agree that it would be good to get a debian package of both Xerces-C
1.1.0 and, when it's stable, Xerces-P.
