[jira] [Created] (FLEX-56) RTL Tooltip is not presented well in RTL
languages
Tamar Amit created FLEX-56:
------------------------------
Summary: RTL Tooltip is not presented well in RTL languages
Key: FLEX-56
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-56
Project: Apache Flex
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Project Management
Environment: All
Reporter: Tamar Amit
Assignee: Bertrand Delacretaz
Priority: Critical
The Tooltip component is not presented well in RTL languages like Hebrew and Arabic.
It seems that the adobe team didn't take care of this issue, hence when it used in spark labels for example the text is idented to the left (as the default ltr layout does)

Please include an example that matches your description. I did much of the RTL work and while it is far from perfect I think labels work fairly well for Hebrew. Hebrew is the only RTL language that I know a bit of it so it was my main test language.
When we get to it, Adobe will donate the new Spark tooltip which provides even better support for all kinds of tooltips, including RTL.

Just to clarify: The issue here is not the character direction. It reads fine. The issue is that the text alignment is left aligned rather than right align.
I'd classify the bug as minor.

[jira] [Updated] (FLEX-56) RTL Tooltip is not presented well in RTL

Tamar Amit updated FLEX-56:
---------------------------
Attachment: RtlTooltipExample.rar
Please find attached an example that demonstrates the problems viewing RTL direction in Hebrew.
In the example if you ill hover over the label "a text with a Hebrew tooltip" you will see that the tooltip overall layout is LTR and not RTL.
Appreciate your willingness to assist.

I understand all those priorities but can anyone change the priority of a bug? I would have marked it major, at least for a RTL app, if what is said in the bug is in fact the case, but as you noted it could just as well be minor.

Hi,
What is our policy vis-a-vie bug priorities?
JIRA makes it fairly clear:
[cid:23AF2E18-916E-48E7-99A5-F8F6FC81AD26] Blocker
Blocks development and/or testing work, production could not run
[cid:A90CD182-0150-4414-91DD-564512830784] Critical
Crashes, loss of data, severe memory leak.
[cid:21CCD0A3-DB17-4B84-B19F-F1246A1CF393] Major
Major loss of function.
[cid:FFF62776-1910-46F2-B0C9-56622DE84610] Minor
Minor loss of function, or other problem where easy workaround is present.
[cid:2F695553-B9E5-445D-BE13-73DEB99F3DF2] Trivial
Cosmetic problem like misspelt words or misaligned text.
I's guess it would be major or perhaps minor depending on your point of view.
Thanks,
Justin

What is our policy vis-a-vie bug priorities? While this bug may be
critical to the author I would not consider the bug a ciritical priority
to the project? Do I leave it as is or adjust it?

Carol Frampton commented on FLEX-56:
------------------------------------
The default toolTip is a TextField so it won't understand direction.
I think you need to create a custom ToolTip by extending spark Label and and implementing the IToolTip interface.
