Cocoon - WAP - Nokia 7110
Hello, a quick question for cocoon/WAP developers.
Have you been able to send cocoon created WAP to the actual 7110 phone via
the NOKIA gateway? I have cocoon producing WAP on my development network,
and via the Internet, to the Nokia WAP toolkit (1.3 Beta). The phone
emulation is the Nokia 7110, and the gateway I use is WAPlite on my local
machine. I then got hold of a real 7110 phone and it wont work.
My Telecom company (Vodafone New Zealand) tell me they use the Nokia gateway
on their network. The cocoon generated WML is arriving at the gateway, but
not being accepted. I recall some posts (months ago) regarding a problem
with the line
<!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.1//EN"
being broken (LF/CR) at ... "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml_1.1.xml">
I am interested to know if this is an actual issue (or just a possibility)
and if others have working cocoon WAP -> Nokia 7110 phones. It appears this
is an issue with the 7110 phone and Nokia gateway.
Regards ... Terry

I have a working Cocoon server, delivering WML to 7110 through
a Nokia gateway.
Did you try to load a static WML page on your server with a 7110 ?

Thanks Pete,
No, I'm not putting a trailing "/" on the URL, and the message returned by
the phone is "page not found" so it's not the cache "Blank screen of death"
problem. Can you confirm that you are delivering WML from Cocoon to a 7110?
What gateway are you using? I'm just trying to build up enough info so I can
say to the Vodafone people "no it's not a cocoon problem, it works perfectly
in every other country in the world!"
Thanks ... Terry

Quick thought: are you appending a trailing slash "/" when you enter the
URL on the nokia?

Another thing to watch: there seem to be a bug in the cache management on
the nokia. "Empty Cache" doesn't always work - don't know why. When your
nokia is in this state, reboot by removing the battery and replacing it.

Hey, btw, have you checked out Kannel's bitchen gateway? It's open source,
they guys writting it /really/ know what they're doing, and they're super
friendly and helpful.
Good luck! ...and feel free to contact us directly if you're still having
problems.

Hi Morten, thanks for your info.
>>Are you sure the phone's properly configured?
I don't have a phone, and so the 'test' was being done on a Vodafone
manager's personal 7110, I can only assume that it was configured correctly
:-)
>>Oh yeah, http://www.yospace.com/ - the best emulators I've come across.
Interesting! I checked out the site and tried to access my .xml cocoon file
via the emulator, no luck "No response received" is the message, but my web
server logs indicate the request arrived and was correctly answered?? I
think I have a bigger problem than I thought. And just to clarify, I can
still access my wml created by cocoon from the Nokia Toolkit.
>>Try requesting a WAP page in your browser by appending user-Agent="Nokia"
as an extra parameter in the URL. Save the output and feed it to the
toolkit.
I'm trying that now.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated, as are the ones you have already
made.
Thanks ... Terry

Are you sure the phone's properly configured? The toolkit is
rather strict, and shouldn't let any bugs through. Try requesting
a WAP page in your browser by appending user-Agent="Nokia" as an
extra parameter in the URL. Save the output and feed it to
the toolkit.
I too experienced some problems with the gateways, but I just think
they're unstable in general ;) Oh yeah, http://www.yospace.com/ -
the best emulators I've come across. Good for screen shots, good for
faster testing.
