What Happened to OO Writer?

Hi There,

About ten years ago (IIRC) I convinced my office to switch to Open Office.
Not long after I was let go.

Tonight I decided to see how to project was going so I went to
www.openoffice.org . I can't even find how to download Writer! The Download
page only offers a "full installation" which I don't want to allocate space
for.

So I searched for Writer on the site. That took me to
http://www.openoffice.org/product/writer.html , but again, no download
option for Writer. The Product section has a link for Writer that just
loops back to http://www.openoffice.org/product/writer.html.

Eventually I found http://www.openoffice.org/sw/ which had a link to go to
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Writer . On there, is a link back
to... you guessed it, http://www.openoffice.org/product/writer.html. Round
and around we go. Nowhere is there an obvious link to download Writer.

If the project if still active, can you please have links so people can
download the program they want? Maybe some extra related links for
spell/gramme checking, etc.

Best wishes,
Pat

You can only download the full package, all modules use most of the same
code, hence even if it was
possible to download only part of OpenOffice it doesn't save much disk
space.

I don't know much about Windows, but can't Windows users install from

OpenOffice is an office suite, have you ever rented office space with
only a chair or only a desk?
If you rent an office you get a Desk, a Chair and probably a Phone ad I
bet there will be carpet on the floor.

This has been discussed many times and the answer seems to be the same
every time. Even if you could download Writer only, its size would still be
maybe 90% of the size of the whole suite.

I heard that AbiWord stepped up a bit with their latest release, I don't
know since I don't use it myself, but maybe that is worth trying? A lot
less to download than Apache OpenOffice…

hi.
i tried to download only writer in two years ago without any success.
i realy wish that openoffice libreoffice developers make the situation
easy for users that only want one or two part of the program, not one
complete package.
i downloaded and tested many versions of two office suites, but i only
need writer not one complete office package!
i wish that developers of these great office projects, read my comment.
thanks every one and God bless you all.
