Ideas on GSoC (was: Fwd: Google Summer of Code 2012 upcoming)

GSoC is coming. We have plenty ongoing stuff at Logging and a GSoC
student might help us with reviving this project. Even when I have
just plenty of time I would try to mentor, if nobody else is willing
to do (Ralph?).

Lets make a brainstorming :-)

- Chainsaw might be separated out from log4j 1.x and be able to work
with log4j2 and hey, why not even log4php or log4net?
- log4j2 needs: JMX, OSGi, missing appenders (SMTP, database),
receivers - we need to specify a list here

Other stuff? Whats with log4cpp? Anything we can do here?

I have created an issue for collecting these tasks - we need to do
this to apply.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-57

I used log4j 2 as it is most likely the project for which we'll get
most attention.

Lets pick up some ideas and then apply soonish

Cheers

There is a lot of potential there. Chainsaw would be a good candidate,
but other things include: JMX, OSGi, missing appenders (SMTP,
database), receivers. I would think Chainsaw would be its own sub
project so that would make it easier to work on.
