ANNOUNCE: mod_rewrite 1.6

The Apache URL Rewriting Module is now really stable. It ran at our machines
since mid March and causes no problems. The current version works with all
1.1b releases, even with the current one: 1.1b2! 

The module is already added to the Apache Module Registry since two weeks.
These days it will be officially announced to comp.xxx via the following
message:

               Apache Server Module ``mod_rewrite''

                      Version 1.6 (12-05-1996)

  Summary:

    This is an Apache Server module which uses a regular-expression
    parser to re-write requested URLs on the fly. It can also use 
    external databases (either plain text, or DBM) to provide a
    mapping-function or generate real URIs (including QUERY_INFO 
    parts) for internal subprocessing or external request redirection.

I would be happy to hear comments to this module from you.  Perhaps it would
be possible to add it to the official core of Apache modules, distributed
with the Apache sources. It would be no problem, because I use the Apache
Copyright and will support this module also in the future. 

Feel free to include it into the official Apache source tree!  Adding it
causes no problems, because unless one uses the "RewriteRule" directive in
the Server Config this module will do _NOTHING_!  But adding this module to
the Apache core distribution would increase Apaches features by another great
value...
