Using Quidem tests to validate optimizations

Hello,

I have filed one year ago a feature which I think would be very useful to simplify testing: adding the ability to Quidem to specify optimization passes to use: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-6335

Unfortunately I never found enough time to work on this in the meantime...

I think that if we managed to fix this issue, we could simplify dramatically the way we write and review tests. Today it is really cumbersome to validate optimization passes.

I am sending this email in the hope that someone who has a few cycles free can pick up this issue. I expect it should not be too much work to do this. I think it will in the long term save everyone a lot of time, since writing tests will become much less painful.
