VMware error

Hi,

I was wondering if one of our VMware experts out there might be able to
comment on why I'm getting the following exception when trying to add a
static iSCSI target to an ESXi host of mine:

Operation failed, diagnostics report: iScsiLibException: status(c0000000):
Invalid parameter; Message= IMA_AddStaticDiscoveryTarget

I've seen some comments on the web, but nothing definitive.

Thanks!

Re: VMware error

Posted by Mike Tutkowski <mi...@solidfire.com>.
I found the error.

/iqn/lun

should just be

iqn

Critical, but easy to fix.

Re: VMware error

Looks like the following is relevant from the log, but it doesn't seem to
provide any more insight.

What do you think?

Re: VMware error

Posted by Kelven Yang <ke...@citrix.com>.
Mike,

You need to first enable ESXi shell(SSH) option on the host. After that,
you will be able to SSH into the host.

In a ESXi shell session, you can go to /var/log directory, look for
hostd.log (host daemon log), vmkernel.log (kernel log), vpxa.log (agent
log)

Re: VMware error

Posted by Mike Tutkowski <mi...@solidfire.com>.
Hi Kelven,

I would be happy to check on that.

I don't have much experience looking at ESXi logs, however. Are you
thinking I should be looking at logs on the ESXi box or CS logs (or
probably both)? If ESXi logs, would you be able to tell me where I go for
those?

Also, this works fine on one of my ESXi boxes, but not on the other. They
both were created from the same ISO.

Thanks!!

Re: VMware error

Posted by Kelven Yang <ke...@citrix.com>.
Mike,

If you constantly encounter this error in a fresh VMware API session, you
need to check the parameter you passed into the API call. You may need to
look at ESX host log file to get more specific info about the failure.

If VMware session has been idle for some time, you may encounter some
random exception like this as well. In 4.2 branch, to support parallel
deployment, we've switched to a pool based VMware API management, there is
a session keep-alive mechanism built in, please help check if the error is
related to session timeout
