Perhaps we distributed a seperate .zip because;
1) MSVC doesn't recognize Unix 'text' for .dsp/.dsw files?
2) We no longer keep .mak files for MSVC projects,
and generate them on-the-fly at release time?
3) The very errors you encountered, that iconv isn't needed
on Unix but isn't available on the typical win32 box?
Perhaps we don't want to waste the bandwidth on those very large
(as you noted) iconv sources?
