Standards for handling Collections interoperability.

What is the status of interoperability of collections, especially Java web 
services and .NET.

Are there any activities/standards in progress to make this happen?.If, so 
how long or when are they expected to be developed and implemented?

Is having all the collections mapped to appropriate arrays  the only to 
handle interoperability issues, or are there any better approches(as of 
now)?.


Any information is greatly appreciated.
