The problem is the tagline "Pure Java Database" Before we can us this
we need to get permission to use the Java trademark. I am working on
this, but as Craig mentioned so metaphorically, it may take a while...

How about a version of this that just says "Apache Derby" or "Apache
Derby Database" for now?

Here's an example of what the logo would look like on
the PDF cover page.

http://derby.mylevita.com/getstart/getstartderby.pdf

I removed the Java Database reference. I also edited
the graphic file so that there was no right margin,
because otherwise the logo appears in the middle of
the page. Roger, would it be possible to make your
upcoming individual submissions have no margins?

Yes. It's not clear that the ASF or anyone else can use the term "Pure
Java Database" like that. Sun has rules nd guidelines over the use of
the Java trademark/brand.

I'm hoping Roger will provide a similar logo without the tag line, or I
guess someone could edit that logo to remove the tag line.

Dan.

What about this one:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321023/derby_with_text.jpg

That one seems to me to be the best fit for the cover
of the PDF's. Any objections? Well I'll test it on
my own copy and send it out for people to look at.

Roger plans to upload the images in
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321055/roger_full_showcase.jpg
as separate files to DERBY-747. Once they are checked into svn it'll be
easy for the doc build (and web site build) to access them.

If you want something to test with for the docs in the meantime, you
might try working with
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12321022/derby_logo_only.jpg
.

Can we put a copy somewhere where the doc build can
access it? If so, I can modify the xsl file now to
point to it during the build and we can have the logo
on our PDF cover pages :)
