[~nicornk] there were a number of fixes related to Arrow that went into the master branch for 3.0.0 and not branch-2.4, notably SPARK-26887 and SPARK-26566 for the date issue. The latter was an upgrade of Arrow, and it is not the usual policy to backport upgrades. I would recommend using an older version of pyarrow with Spark, version 0.8.0 would be best, but you might be able to use 0.11.1 without issues.
