   A PR addressing this is up: #13302. It introduces four optional config items (watch_timeout_seconds, watch_jitter_seconds, watch_retry_interval_seconds, watch_retry_max_seconds) that preserve current behaviour by default and add exponential backoff with reset-on-success. Feedback on the field naming and defaults welcome.
