Tabs are the most commonly used column delimiters in microcomputers. Most
softwares export columnar data in this format by default and with some of them
with no other option.
OTOH most spreadsheet softwares I've used, either when importing tabbed text
files, when pasting or when dragging and dropping tabbed data from another
source (a word processor for example), interpret by default tabs as delimiters.
I just can't fathom the rationale behind the default option in Calc to paste
tabbed data (i.e. copied in Writer) as “text Writer data” with each complete
line in one cell. Who the heck needs that in a spreadsheet?
It's extremely time consuming. I have lots of .txt tabed data files to import
in Calc. I have to copy the data, chose Special Paste, then select Unformated
Text and so on.
