[jira] [Commented] (PHOENIX-5939) Publish PhoenixDB to PyPI

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PHOENIX-5939?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17126927#comment-17126927 ]

Josh Elser commented on PHOENIX-5939:
-------------------------------------

{quote}I think that we should try to take over the old project for minimum disruption for users
{quote}
We can ask Lukas if he would be OK with us doing this. I would assume he would be supportive (as he's been supportive for everything else so far). If not, we'd need to make sure we point people to something we do control as a PMC.
{quote}Do we want to [take over PyPi account]?
{quote}
We definitely need to have _something_ here. I actually don't know what kind of infrastructure/automation we have at the ASF. I've asked around to see if I know anyone who knows more, but I'll also start digging through ASF docs. Hopefully we can find someone to give us Java-wizards some Python direction :)
{quote}Sync releases to the queryserver versioning, and publish _1.0.0.devX_ versions for worthwhile changes. After _1.0.0_ we can probably use a forth digit for intermediate releases, i.e _1.0.0.X_
{quote}
I think we can use any versioning that we want. Since queryserver and client are decoupled in terms of builds, and Avatica tries to make strong backwards compatibility guarantees, we can generally tell folks to use the latest of each (avoiding the "are these two versions compatible")
{quote}Blocker: We should get the the licensing stuff sorted at least for the python code
{quote}
I should be able to help here.
{quote}Publishing should be done by whoever drives the python stuff (me for the time being)
{quote}
Thanks for volunteering!

>             Project: Phoenix
>          Issue Type: Task
>          Components: queryserver
>    Affects Versions: queryserver-1.0.0
>            Reporter: Istvan Toth
>            Priority: Major
>
> The original PhoenixDB driver was published to PyPI.
> The improved version in phoenix-queryserver is only available from there.
> We should start publishing the driver again.
> Some questions to answer:
> * Can we take over the old PyPI project ?
>  * Do we want to ?
> * What should be the project/artifact name (if not the old one)
>  * Version numbering ?
> * Do we want to publish development versions ?
> * What is the process / who should do the publishing ?
> * Any blockers before we start publishing ?
