In the mean time this bug has been fixed:
http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/cocoon-2.1/src/blocks/forms/java/org/apache/cocoon/forms/transformation/EffectWidgetReplacingPipe.java
(Version 1.5).
You can easily backport this fix to original Woody block:
