Hotfix/maintenance releases...

Hi everyone,

... just because I saw a bit of back and forth on the mailing list: those
who need a hotfix release including the devs that provide pull requests
should sync with me to get this right.

Manoj and myself will have a session on how to set up your dev environment
for proper releases. Interested parties can join (I'll publish details when
I know them). We'll also discuss how to follow proper procedures (most
importantly: first announce then create eventual release branches).

Note: admittedly the documentation on this subject is still a bit thin, but
we still have to create the first one (probably some details will change if
we see fit). I'll update the current documentation based on the session
with Manoj and answer any open questions.

Note II: there is a "1.7.1" release tag... consider this invalid; we are
currently preparing this release the proper way.

Just FYI.

Cheers,

Aleks

... unfortunately my calendar is again full for this week... and my session with Manoj last weekend didn't happen. Let's fix Monday in the morning (GMT+2)... I'll try to confirm with Manoj and will ping back here.
