dependecy checking

Hi all,
It seems to me that Ant is excellent in dependency checking --- does it do
anything special to achieve this dependency checking ---- as far as I
remember java compiler could not check cyclic package dependencies ie. if
pk1.a.java depends on pk2.b.java which in turn depends on pk1.c.java. Does
anyone know how ant achieves resolving this dependency checking without
Makefile. I hope the ant developers can answer this question for me.
