Java Extension-functions that return Strings containing xml
How can I make a String (that contains '<' and '>' characters) returned
from a Xalan Java Extension-function not be escaped to < and
> entities in the transformation-result?
I'm very sorry to ask this question on the development-list but I've been
looking for two weeks without finding a solution.

The "<" can legally only appear when used as the start of an element or
within a comment, processing instruction, or CDATA section. If you're
using it to indicate the start of an element, I'd suggest returning a
Node or NodeSet from your extension function.
Otherwise, you may want to try to play around with
disable-output-escaping in the XSLT that calls the extension function.
