[Bug 121217] New: openSUSE installer is using a picture similar to
Apache OpenOffice logo
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121217
Priority: P3
Bug ID: 121217
Assignee: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
Summary: openSUSE installer is using a picture similar to
Apache OpenOffice logo
Severity: normal
Issue Type: DEFECT
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
Reporter: rgb-es@apache.org
Hardware: PC
Status: CONFIRMED
Version: unspecified
Component: improper-use
Product: trademark

Zip file with the problematic logo and the text used by openSUSE during install
slide show
I noticed a possible trademark issue with openSUSE(1) and the Apache OpenOffice
(incubating) logo.
The openSUSE 12.2 installer, when copying packages to the hard drive offer a
slide show to highlight the main characteristics for this Linux based
distribution. On the slide that talk about the office suite offered you can
find the potential trademark issue: openSUSE distribute LibO, but instead of
using the TDF logo you can see an orb with two gulls quite similar to Apache
OpenOffice (incubating) logo.
It is possible to see the picture looking at the content of openSUSE's DVD(2):
Under
suse/setup/slide
directory there are two folders, "pic" with several png files and "txt" with
the text for the slides on several languages. The problematic "pic" is
05_office.png
The picture (together with the EN rtf file with the text for that slide) is
attached to the issue

I filled this report on their bugzilla system:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785389
They do not have a "trademark" or similar category, so I filled it as a bug.

This picture goes back as far as opensuse 10.2. See:
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/discontinued/distribution/10.2/repo/oss/suse/setup/slide/pic/
So, it seems they've been using it a while (2006. This is the oldest install
set I could find online), not that it makes it right. Undoubtedly this was put
in place when OpenOffice was the supported office product. Perhaps contacting
opensuse about it and asking for a change is what's needed.

This openSUSE's issue is now marked as RESOLVED-FIXED, so it seems they changed
the picture for the upcoming release, so I'm changing the status for this issue
to resolved too.
